or nearly thirty-five years, Structured Communication Systems has helped organizations nationwide navigate digital transformation by “bridging people, business, and technology.” Founded in 1992 in Clackamas, Oregon, Structured specializes in providing industry-leading security, cloud, digital infrastructure, and managed services.

In Alaska—where it opened an office in 2003 and employs fifteen people—Structured offers a distinct advantage: a local, four-person sales team that understands the state’s operating realities and delivers customer-focused solutions. “Team Alaska” includes longterm residents and industry veterans serving healthcare, the public sector, critical infrastructure, and rural markets. The group has extensive experience supporting resource development, including direct work with North Slope production and pipeline operators.

That local expertise is crucial in Alaska, where geography, weather, logistics, and workforce shortages can complicate technology decisions. “Our customers trust us to listen to their requirements and then bring back appropriate solutions,” Territory Director Dan Maxwell says. “They are confident that we know what we’re doing and in our proven track record.”

NATIONAL-SCALE RESOURCES
While some competitors represent only a handful of vendors, Structured works with hundreds of partners, giving its Alaska team flexibility to recommend solutions that fit clients’ budgets, performance needs, and long-term goals. “We’re large enough to have around 300 partners,” says Senior Account Manager Janet Furr. “We can offer several different alternatives where other companies may be married to one or two different partners.”

As a vendor-agnostic reseller, Structured designs solutions around client needs rather than a single manufacturer’s product line. “We can sell our customers anything; we can customize a solution for them,” says Adam Garnett, Sales Operations Development Representative.

Bridging between people, business, and technology means translating technical options into practical value. So, conversations with customers often go beyond boxes and specs. “No one wants to buy a router or switch,” Furr explains. “What they want is efficiency with their workforce and security.”

Senior Account Manager Leaves Garnett echoes that philosophy. She emphasizes, “We’re selling a business outcome supported by experienced engineers who have spent years designing and supporting complex environments.”

Longevity and continuity also differentiate Structured. Many of its employees have been with the company for decades, so Alaska clients often work with the same people year after year. “If you’re continually available for customers, that’s what builds relationships in the community,” Maxwell says.”

NOT THE TYPICAL IT RESELLER
Structured takes a unique “boutique” approach to service, relying on inperson meetings, local engagement, and genuine relationships that larger national competitors may struggle to match. Team Alaska will do whatever is necessary—whether it’s getting a critical package onto a same-day Alaska Airlines flight or hand delivering a proposal to Homer—to satisfy clients. “Customer service is what we live and die by,” says Senior Account Manager Ryan Bergstrom. “We can’t afford for things to go wrong.”

The company supports data center modernization, cybersecurity, governance, risk, and compliance across industries ranging from healthcare to utilities and government. It helps clients assess gaps, plan managed services, and meet regulated security frameworks and other requirements. For organizations struggling to recruit and retain specialized IT talent, Structured often serves as an extension of their customer’s team.

That support drives measurable results. Recently, Structured developed an alternative recommendation that could save a healthcare client $200,000 by scaling the solution more appropriately. It also supported a state agency through a data center refresh while reducing costs and minimizing downtime.

Ultimately, Structured offers more than IT solutions; it delivers service and confidence. As Maxwell notes, “It’s about the trust customers have in us to help them secure their network and data from the bad guys.”
