TOP 49ERS
2026 Top 49ers
By Tasha Anderson
T

he Top 49ers are Alaska’s largest companies, ranked by gross revenue, that were founded in Alaska, are headquartered here, and are not owned by Outside companies. As the name indicates, the ranks include forty-nine companies.

To gather the data, Alaska Business invites more than 200 companies to participate in a survey process, in which those companies self-report revenue, employee numbers, and updates on leadership and noteworthy news. The companies are also asked to verify that they meet the Top 49ers criteria, and Alaska Business verifies independently that those criteria are met.

Once that process is complete, the companies are ranked; some are invited to participate in further editorial coverage for the special section; and all are invited to the annual Alaska Business Top 49ers luncheon to celebrate.

The results for 2026 are in, and here are a few highlights:

The top six 49ers echo the 2025 ranks: Arctic Slope Regional Corporation (ASRC) is at #1, followed by Bristol Bay Native Corporation, NANA Regional Corporation, Chenega Corporation, Lynden, and Calista Corporation.

As a group, the 2026 Top 49ers earned more than $30 billion in revenue in 2025, and ASRC makes up nearly 20 percent of that total, with the top five companies accounting for nearly 50 percent.

Approximately one-third of the 2026 Top 49ers saw a drop in revenue from 2024 to 2025, but the other 70 percent saw a gain of at least 2 percent. General contractor Cornerstone General Contractors saw the highest jump in revenue, 59 percent from 2024 to 2025. Seven other Top 49ers—Ahtna, Davis Constructors & Engineers, Ukpeaġvik Iñupiat Corporation, Black Gold Express, Bering Straits Native Corporation, and Northrim Bank—saw revenue increase more than 20 percent over 2024.

In addition to the highest revenue, ASRC also has the most employees worldwide and in Alaska, 17,355 and 4,108 respectively, followed closely by NANA, which has 14,221 worldwide and 3,160 Alaskan employees. As a group, the Top 49ers employ more than 100,000 people worldwide, and approximately one-quarter of them are in Alaska.

While approximately half of the Top 49ers are headquartered in Anchorage, the remaining half are home-based throughout the state. Many of these are Native corporations with headquarters within their regions, but the list also includes companies like Usibelli Coal Mine and Contango Silver & Gold in Fairbanks, Black Gold Express in North Pole, Cruz Construction in Palmer, Colville in Prudhoe Bay, and Three Bears Alaska in Wasilla.

The Top 49ers are also approximately divided in half in terms of their business activities. Because of their diverse business lines, spanning from technology to construction to security, the Alaska Native regional, village, and urban corporations are classified as one sector, and for 2026 there are twenty-six Alaska Native corporations on the list. The remaining twenty-three Top 49ers are in the construction industry (five), industry support (five), finance (four), transportation (three), utility (three), mining (two), and retail (one) sectors.

The three new Top 49ers, which have never before appeared in the ranks, are from three different industries: Shee Atiká is the Alaska Native urban corporation for Sitka; Contango Silver & Gold is a mining company, with interest in one operating mine and several other projects in various phases of exploration; and Denali Universal Services provides facility and camp services, as well as security and emergency response.

Congratulations to all of the Top 49ers, whose efforts are powering Alaska.
