Tough Questions Shape a Winning Plan
A Junior Achievement experience
By Olivia Okeahialam
I

wanted to take a moment to express my sincere gratitude to Junior Achievement of Alaska for the opportunity to participate in the Alaska Entrepreneurship Week Youth Shark Tank pitch program. Winning the competition was an amazing honor, but what I value most is everything I learned along the way. The process pushed me to think critically about my business plan, from identifying my target audience to refining how I present my ideas with confidence and purpose.

Nightlight Labs is my idea for a business to bring back the magic of sleepovers, without the overnight stress. I created a place where kids can enjoy themed rooms, pajamas, and fun, science-inspired activities while parents get a worry-free night out. As a 15-year-old student who loves creativity, learning, and helping others, I want Nightlight Labs to glow as bright as the ideas it inspires.

The feedback I received from the judges during Alaska Entrepreneurship Week was truly an invaluable bonus. Your dedication to dig deep and ask the tough questions helped awaken perspectives I hadn’t considered before. It challenged me to look at my plan through new lenses and think more strategically about how to grow and improve it. That type of insight is something I’ll carry with me far beyond this experience.

Through Junior Achievement, I have learned that experience really is one of life’s best teachers. I’m so thankful for the time, effort, and expertise each of you shared to make this opportunity possible. It’s definitely earned a top spot on my list of meaningful learning moments.
